The future is orange, and it’s also been leaked to the public. This image was leaked from KTM’s dealer meeting, revealing the Austrian company’s plans for new models for the North American market for the next three years.
Notable models listed from KTM‘s outline include the previously confirmed for India Duke 350, three Freeride models (including two electric ones) 1290cc versions of the Super Duke R and Adventure, as well as an expanded use of 350cc engines.
The Duke 350 is based on the entry-level Duke 125 currently available in Europe and other markets. The 125cc version (pictured below) and an upcoming 200cc version make sense in those markets, many of which have graduated licensing laws regulating the engine sizes of motorcycles for young riders.
The larger 350cc engine may be more appealing for the North American market, while also giving the Duke 350 a displacement advantage over the 250cc entry level models such as the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and the Honda CBR250R.
The KTM Freeride was first revealed in prototype form at the 2010 Tokyo Motor Show, and it appears KTM is planning on three variants on the Freeride platform for North America. KTM lists two electric off-road Freeride models, the Freeride E SX and Freeride E EXC, as well as the presumably gas-powered Freeride 350.
When it was unveiled in Tokyo, the Freeride concept maintained a traditional motocross style look, with a claimed power output of 30hp, 31.7 ft-lb. of torque and a weight of 198.4 pounds.
Apart from the Freeride and Duke platforms, the 350 engine will be offered in a new enduro model and what is listed as a Moto3 for 2014 (likely the faired motorcycle rendering on the right side of the leaked image). KTM has previously announced it is re-entering the Grand Prix World Championship in 2012 with in the Moto3 class. The Moto3 class is limited to 250cc engines however, a 350 version is curious as it does not fit into any current race class.
For those interested in larger displacement models, the leaked image lists two 1290 models, the Super Duke 1290 R and the Adventure 1290. KTM currently offers the 990 Super Duke R and 990 Adventure, both powered by 75-degree 999cc V-Twin engines. KTM also currently offers a 990 Supermoto R using the same engine but it does not appear a 1290 version of the Supermoto R is in KTM’s North American plans at this time. The 1290 Super Duke R is expected in 2013 with the Adventure version coming in 2014.
KTM also lists an Adventure R 1090 for 2013.
