The final entry list for the Moto2 race at the 2011 Indianapolis Grand Prix includes some familiar names for American racing fans. American racers JD Beach and Jake Gagne along with 2010 AMA Daytona Sportbike Champion Martin Cardenas are on the entry list for the Aug. 28 Moto2 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Colombian racer Cardenas (pictured) will race as an injury replacement for Yonny Hernandez on the Blusens-STX team. Hernandez was hurt in a crash at Brno in the Czech Republic Grand Prix. Cardenas is currently fourth in the AMA American Superbike Championship with one win and a pair of third-place finishes. Cardenas will race on the Blusens-STX team’s FTR machine along with regular team rider Esteve Rabat.
Ramona, Calif., native Gagne will race as a wild card entry with the GP Tech team on an FTR. Gagne is a product of the Red Bull Rookies racing program, winning the 2010 Rookies Cup. Gagne currently races in the Moto2 class in Spain’s CEV championship. Jason DiSalvo raced as a wild card for the GP Tech team in last year’s Indianapolis Moto2 race.
JD Beach is another Red Bull Rookies alumnus. According to RoadRacingWorld, Beach will be ride an FTR as substitute for the Aeroport de Castello team’s Tommaso Lorenzetti. Beach is currently 11th in the AMA American Superbike Championship, and earlier this year finished fourth in the Daytona 200. The entry list has Beach as a “permanent replacement” for Lorenzetti, who himself replaced Kev Coghlan on the Aeroport de Castello team, though it isn’t clear at this point if Beach will race any further Moto2 rounds given his AMA racing commitments.
